An Amazon fulfillment and distribution center is one step closer to setting up shop in Richardson. The city council last week approved a zoning permit for the estimated $45 million project with a 5-2 vote. Council members Mark Solomon and Ken Hutchenrider voted against it, with Hutchenrider citing concerns that the size of the project, increased by the zoning change, could lead to traffic congestion near the site. Plans presented during the meeting showed the 141, 360-square-foot center will be located on a 33-acre now-vacant lot at Shiloh Road and Breckenridge Boulevard. The site will have 695 van parking spaces, 444 associate parking spaces, 15 truck docks and 13 trailer storage areas. The project is expected to create 120 to 140 full-time jobs with starting wages of $15 an hour and benefits for workers. The zoning permit approved by the city council increases the maximum building height from 25 feet to 50 feet. Douglas Otte of Seefried Properties, the developer representing Amazon, said the company is requesting no city incentives or tax abatements.
